PalThink Launches TOT Program in Democracy and Human Rights

PalThink for Strategic Studies has launched the “Training of Trainers” (TOT) program in Democracy and Human Rights, as part of the “SWITCH: Turning the Principles of Human Rights and Democracy into Everyday Life and Practices for the People of Gaza” project, in collaboration with the European Union.

The training was inaugurated by Mr. Omar Shaban, Director of PalThink for Strategic Studies, who expressed his gratitude to both the trainers and participants for their commitment to the program, especially considering the challenging circumstances in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted that this commitment reflects the intellectual maturity of Palestinian youth and their awareness of their role in confronting these challenges through community-building initiatives.

Mr. Omar expressed his pride at the resumption of the program after a year of interruption (since September 2023), despite the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the resilience and dedication of the participants.

Mr. Shaban emphasized the pivotal role of youth in Palestinian society as a driving force for societal change. He explained that the project aims to develop the capacities of human rights defenders, changemakers, and civil society leaders by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to monitor and document human rights conditions in their communities. Additionally, the project seeks to strengthen the capabilities of both traditional and digital media institutions in promoting a culture of respect for human rights.

The training program provides a diverse range of skills and knowledge, covering essential topics such as humanitarian standards under international humanitarian law, integrity in humanitarian work, potential violations, democracy from a gender perspective, and the implementation of initiatives that promote democratic values. This enables participants to carry out community initiatives and awareness sessions, sharing the knowledge and skills they have gained with their peers and the broader community, in collaboration with civil society organizations across the Gaza Strip.

The project involves training 52 young men and women, with the first group already receiving training in the Middle Governorate. Training will continue with additional groups, including sessions to be held in Gaza City.

PalThink remains committed to supporting and empowering youth in both peaceful and challenging times, preparing a generation capable of building a resilient society that can overcome obstacles and challenges.
