The 7th Seminar for the YPC- Human Rights, Activism, and Advocacy in Palestine

Gaza City— PalThink concluded the seventh seminar of the project: “Youth Political Club: Palestine’s Tomorrow Leaders” in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the lecturer is Ms. Samia Al-Ghussain, PhD in Human Rights and Law. The topic is “An Introduction to Human Rights, Activism, and Advocacy in Palestine” the seminar took place at Pal-Think’s hall on Sunday, 25 August, 2019 and lasted for three hours 10:00-13:00.
The lecture aimed to advance the understanding and knowledge of youth and provide them with the necessary knowledge to defend their rights and raise awareness to intensify efforts exerted on advocacy and lobbying to contribute to developing new policies and make positive community changes.
Dr. Samia kicked off the session by dividing the team into 3 groups to talk about the different types of human rights. In the first part of the seminar, Dr. Samia discussed the importance of human rights, its characteristics, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The second part dealt with advocacy and activism, including the definition of advocacy, its importance, elements of advocacy, the five stages in the process of advocacy, policies and strategies of advocacy campaigns, in addition to talking about digital advocacy campaigning.
Dr. Samia concluded the lecture with a post-learning activity to test the knowledge of the club members on HRs and advocacy concepts; it was done by providing quiz questions to the group and present a summary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its practice on the ground.
