As part of its continuous endeavors to empower young people and consolidate dialogue and acceptance of the other, PalThink for Strategic Studies has concluded the \u201cBuilding Tomorrow\u2019s Leaders for Palestine\u201d debate training program, which aims to develop young people\u2019s debate skills and abilities to persuade others and express their point views in a civilized manner.<\/span><\/p>\n

The two-week training program targeted 55 young men and women from all governorates of the Gaza Strip.<\/span><\/p>\n

Islam Atallah, the specialized debate trainer of the program, said: \u201cThe program was designed to suit the needs of young people. The trainees were introduced to debates, their various tools and strategies, research mechanisms, and ways to obtain information from reliable sources.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe program aimed at enhancing the young people\u2019s skills of building arguments, bringing evidence, refutation, questioning, and presenting logical and constructive arguments.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, Engy Abdel-Aal, 24, one of the trainees, said: \u201cPalestinian youth, particularly in the Gaza Strip, need to develop their skills and knowledge of topics that covered by university curricula. They need to be involved and integrated into civil society institutions. This is what PalThink is trying to achieve through its activities\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

For his part, the 22-year-old trainee Ibrahim Al-Tartouri said: \u201cThe trainers were specialists in the field of debate. We learned new debate strategies and how to deal with others\u2019 opinions. This enabled me to present my ideas and opinions in front of the public and defend them through scientific methods, which we learned during the training.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The trainees will carry out 20 debates in universities and various local institutions, as one of the main outputs and as a practical application after the training they have received.<\/span><\/p>\n
