The war, which\u00a0has had a devastating impact on the lives of\u00a0Palestinians living in Gaza, is the third of its\u00a0kind in \u00a0less than a decade and has taken the\u00a0lives of more than 2,000 Palestinians and 71\u00a0Israelis.1 But despite the continuous tensions\u00a0between Israel and Hamas \u2013 the latter refuses\u00a0to recognise Israel as a state and Israel remains\u00a0persistent in labelling Hamas a terrorist\u00a0organisation \u2013 both parties have been increasingly\u00a0in contact through indirect exchange\u00a0of messages. There have also been\u00a0signs of increased political will, on both sides,\u00a0to pursue a more enduring ceasefire that can\u00a0last for many years. Is this increased contact\u00a0and the slight ease of the Gaza blockade a\u00a0real sign of a more sustainable truce between\u00a0Israel and Hamas? Or will it once again be a\u00a0temporary bandage on a wound that needs\u00a0more extensive care and a longer time to\u00a0heal?
