{"id":9757,"date":"2019-08-08T13:57:16","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T10:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/palthink.org\/en\/?p=9757"},"modified":"2019-09-30T10:20:57","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T07:20:57","slug":"pal-think-concludes-the-1st-seminar-within-the-project-youth-political-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/palthink.org\/en\/2019\/08\/9757\/","title":{"rendered":"The 1st Seminar for YPC- Elections in Palestine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>7 July, 2019<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 36pt;\">P<\/span><\/strong><\/span>al-Think concluded the first seminar of the project: \u201cYouth Political Club: Palestine\u2019s Tomorrow Leaders\u201d in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the lecturer is Mr. Raed Al-Samouni, Head of Procedures and Training Department at the Palestinian Central Elections Commission and the topic is \u201cThe History and the Future of Elections in Palestine: Youths and Women in Elections\u201d the seminar took place at Pal-Think\u2019s hall on the 7<sup>th<\/sup> of July, 2019 and lasted for three hours 10:00-13:00.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The lecture aimed at raising awareness of the target group, especially Palestinian youths did not witness presidential or parliamentary elections since 2006. It is important that youths have the proper knowledge and understanding to further develop the role of Palestinian youths to rise as future leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In the first part of the seminar, Mr. Al-Samouni talked about Palestinian Elections Law, including Law No. (9), which was approved by the Palestinian Legislative Council in 2005. This also included the concept of mixed electoral system, proportional representation and the majority system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In the second part of the lecture, Mr. Al-Samouni talked about voting rights, candidate age, women&#8217;s quota system, electoral campaigns and election monitoring. In addition, Al-Samouni discussed related information to the local, presidential and legislative elections.
